An editorial illustration for an article about mental illness and daily struggles living with mental health challenges. This is a topic that resonates and I have personally been a strong advocate for mental health. I chose to depict a young woman with a tornado of stressful elements swirling around her to communicate that so many factors affect our mood and impact our capacity to manage life on the daily basis. I had explored various color options I felt exude feelings of somber, gloom, depression, or the fiery and bold red palette which gave greater contrast, but the final illustration selected for the article is the cool blue grey tones that evoke the somber mood best.
